Arctic Truck 3

This is the third of a 3-truck project for purpose built Hummers designed for an expedition to the Arctic Ocean winter 2014/2015.  Stay tuned for pictures, updates, and more.  It’s named “Arctic Truck 2” because it is the 2nd truck project we started for this expedition.

We planned this trip without a truck to drive.  We even started provisioning the first 2 trucks for this trip before even buying this truck.  It started life as an HMC4 (4 man hard top) Hummer and will be converted to an HMCS (wagon) for this trip.  Complete body-off restoration, new 12k frame and frame rails, new differentials, 12k shafts, etc.  This will be the biggest “build” of all 3 vehicles for this trip!

Truck Equipment Will Include:

– 6.7L Cummins engine conversion (with EGR delete), Allison 6-speed transmission with manual shifting capabilities.

– Air ride suspension system with Rancho adjustable shocks or Fox adjustable shocks. (Sold by Big Dog Offroad)

– In-cab heater (sold by BigDogOffroad.com, please call for details). 13,000 BTU/hour.

– Coolant heater that will heat engine, all 4 fuel tanks, battery tray, and more. 31,000 BTU/hour (sold by BigDogOffroad.com, please call for details)

– 20″ 2-piece beadlock wheels with Continental MPT 81 tires

– Alpha steering system upgrade (sold by Big Dog Offroad).

– Half a dozen Garmin GPS units (at least) for both driver and team navigator

– Rubber Duck 4×4 lightbar with lots of lighting

– Rubber Duck 4×4 (www.RubberDuck4x4.com) TreeHugger roof rack with Line-X slats

– 360 degree lighting

– Blue, red, amber, white, and possibly other colors of emergency lighting (all switched separately to be used in conjunction with local laws depending on laws governing which color of lighting is legal). We will also add a traffic directional rear lightbar.

– Rear driver seat will be removed and replaced with a custom built storage box to completely fill the seat area so our company mascot, Michelle, an 8-week old Great Dane, and her friend Jojo (our fabricator’s dog) have enough room to sleep on top of this box and on the top of the tunnel. Inside the box will be dog food. We will also add a rear bed for our team’s members to take turns sleeping in the truck. Tools, food, and drinks will be below the rear bed.
